March 1, 2025, will go down in Romania’s recent history as a day of defiance against a corrupt and oppressive government. The streets of Bucharest were flooded with an unprecedented wave of discontent, as more than 100,000 people gathered in University Square and marched to Victory Square, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu and the organization of free elections, free from the interference of hidden power structures. The protest, organized by the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), was the largest so far this year, sending a clear message that the PSD-PNL regime has lost all legitimacy in the eyes of the people.
An Illegitimate Government, A President Imposed by the System
Romania stands at a critical crossroads. After years of disastrous policies, crippling taxes, skyrocketing prices, and uncontrolled government borrowing that has buried the country in debt, the people have spoken: ENOUGH! Yesterday’s protest was not just against Ciolacu; it was a rebellion against an entire mafia system that has kept Romania in a state of stagnation.
Public anger reached a boiling point when the Constitutional Court—controlled by the political elites of PSD and PNL—annulled the second round of the presidential elections. In an unprecedented act, democracy was trampled, and the will of the people was overruled by a decision dictated from the shadows. The system refused to let the people choose their leader and instead attempted once again to impose a puppet president, subservient to Brussels and foreign interests, at the expense of Romania’s sovereignty.
AUR, the only true opposition force in Romania, mobilized tens of thousands of people, and the number of those present in the streets was overwhelming. Protesters carried signs with clear messages: “Ciolacu, Resign!”, “We Want Free Elections!”, “Down with the PSD-PNL Mafia!” and “Stop Stealing Our Vote!”
The System Tries to Suppress the Popular Revolt
The authorities’ response? The usual playbook: intimidation and an attempt to downplay the protest’s scale. The Gendarmerie was deployed in large numbers, with clear orders to keep demonstrators in check. Although the protest remained peaceful, a few minor incidents occurred—most likely provoked by infiltrators attempting to derail the movement. The Ciolacu regime, like its predecessors, knows that any powerful street movement can spark a revolution, and they are doing everything possible to prevent it.
The regime’s propaganda machines quickly sprang into action. PSD and PNL’s media outlets reported laughably low attendance numbers, hoping to discourage the movement. However, the reality on the ground was undeniable—University Square and Victory Square were packed. The images speak for themselves.
A Clear Message: Free Elections and a Romania for Romanians!
What happened yesterday in Bucharest should be a wake-up call for the current government. Romania can no longer be governed through fear and manipulation. The people want a state that works for them, not for corrupt local barons and backroom deals worth billions. Protesters demanded not only Ciolacu’s resignation but also the organization of fair elections, without the interference of political elites trying to control the country from behind the scenes.
Once again, AUR proved to be the only political force capable of mobilizing the masses. George Simion, the party’s leader, stood among the people and delivered a strong message: “We will not allow Romania to be stolen! This is just the beginning!” A clear statement that shows the fight for the country’s liberation is far from over.
What’s Next?
Yesterday’s protest was not the end; it was just the beginning. The popular revolt will continue and intensify because Romanians have realized that only through constant pressure can they reclaim their rights. The corrupt system, supported by PSD, PNL, and their allies, is desperately trying to hold onto power—but it can no longer ignore the voice of the people.
More protests, more demonstrations, and more actions are coming. One thing is certain: Romania is at a turning point. The people have awakened, and they will no longer accept being ruled by corrupt puppets.
The Ciolacu regime received a serious warning yesterday. Their time is running out. And when the people demand their rights, no one can stop them.
